After finishing the Spanish Old Fashioned, I decided my next drink needed to be something completely different.
Enter the Caipirão.
The best way I can describe it is a mojito that skipped therapy and chose violence.
Built around Licor Beirão and fresh lime juice, the cocktail immediately catches your attention with its bright citrus aroma. It looks light, refreshing, and completely harmless.
Then you take your first sip.
The Licor Beirão brings a distinctive herbal sweetness that works beautifully with the fresh lime juice, creating a cocktail that's vibrant, refreshing, and packed with character. It never feels overly sweet or overly tart. Instead, everything stays remarkably balanced from the first sip to the last.
Despite its refreshing appearance, this isn't a cocktail that fades into the background. It has enough personality to stand on its own while remaining dangerously easy to drink, making it exactly the sort of cocktail that convinces you everything is still under control.
Thankfully, better judgment eventually intervened.
If you're looking for something outside the usual mojitos, margaritas, and Moscow Mules, the Caipirão is well worth exploring. The combination of Licor Beirão and fresh lime juice creates something that's approachable while offering a personality all its own.
