The ingredient list had me sold.

Giffard banana liqueur. Baijiu. Vodka. Lemon. Thai basil. Lemongrass. Soda.

On paper, that sounds like controlled chaos.

In the glass...

I spent the entire drink waiting for the banana to arrive.

It must've gotten caught in Edmonton construction.

Instead, I got a light, spritzy lemon water with a few herbs hanging around for moral support.

I finished the entire cocktail hoping the next sip would finally be the one.

It never was.

I don't need a banana cocktail to taste like banana candy, but when "B-A-N-A-N-A-S" is written across the menu in all caps, I'd like at least a passing acknowledgment that a banana was invited.

It wasn't undrinkable.

It was just the first drink of the night that made me wish I'd ordered literally anything else.
