Fiesta Tacos gives you the option of a QR menu or an actual menu, which I appreciate. Sometimes I want technology. Sometimes I want to hold a fucking menu in my hands. Let me live.
We started with the drinks, and there was no shortage of mango making its way around the table. The Coconut Mango Margarita comes with dried mango and a rim of toasted coconut. The Coconut Lime Margarita gets the same toasted coconut treatment, while the Mango Margarita is rimmed with flaky sea salt and finished with dried mango. The Spicy Mango Margarita brings fresh jalapeño, although there wasn't much Tajín happening around the rim. I wanted a little more heat, but the jalapeño at least showed up to work.
The Mango Tango is a gluten-free, vegan salsa that was served with gluten-free nachos, and it's fucking good. The heat really sneaks up on you.
When it came time to order food, I made the server choose for me: Chicken Tinga and Quesabirria.
I like doing this when I'm reviewing a place. It gives me a starting point that isn't based on what I already think I'm going to like. No scrolling through reviews. No picking the thing with the most Instagram photos. Just, "You work here. You know the food. What should I eat?"
These things were fucking stuffed. More stuffed than Bonnie Blue on a weekend.
There was so much filling packed into these things that eating them became an exercise in structural management. Every bite threatened to send something out the back, the front, or somewhere completely unrelated to the plate.
Which brings me to the presentation.
They're served on a board.
And look, the board looks nice. It photographs well. It gives the whole thing that rustic, polished look.
But Mexican food is fucking messy.
Give us our plates back.
And while we're at it, please give us real napkins. Those little cafeteria-style squares aren't remotely equipped for this job. When you've got consommé, salsa, melted cheese, and enough filling to make a pornstar blush, I shouldn't need six napkins just to accomplish what one proper napkin could have handled.
The service was really good, too. The server knew the menu, made solid recommendations, and didn't hesitate when I handed over the decision-making.
And speaking of decisions, do yourself a favour: dip the quesabirria in the consommé AND the Mango Tango salsa.
Both.
Trust me.
That's the move.
Fiesta Tacos delivered exactly what I came looking for: great food, great drinks and great service.
The only thing that needs fixing is the equipment. Give me a plate. Give me a real napkin.
I'll take care of the questionable decisions myself.
